![]() School Nurse - Nancy Cuvelier, R.N.
Hi! My name is Nancy (Reicks) Cuvelier, and I am a graduate of Turkey Valley Community School, Class of 1977. I grew up on a farm west of Little Turkey, and I am happy to be back in Turkey Valley District, living in Lawler with my husband Gary, and our two daughters, Rebecca and Julia.
After graduating from Turkey Valley, I attended Rochester Community College in Rochester, Minnesota, to obtain my two year Associate Degree in Nursing. While attending college, I also worked as a nursing assistant, until beginning work as a RN in 1980. I continued to work at Rochester Methodist Hospital for 3 years before returning to school at Winona State University to obtain my Bachelor's Degree in 1985. I continued working at Mayo Clinic's Methodist Hospital in Critical Care until 1998, obtaining 20 years of employment with Mayo Clinic Hospitals.
I started employment as the Turkey Valley School Nurse in the fall of 1997, replacing Shirley Murray, RN, who had retired that spring. Even though school nursing is very different than critical care nursing, I am challenged every bit as much in this role. I am happy to be back at Turkey Valley School, and I will try to deliver the best nursing care possible to the students and staff of this district. |
![]() I see approximately 100+ students a day for a variety of medical reasons. Some of my duties as school nurse are to care for ill and injured children, distribute medications, communicate with parents, doctors, and other health personnel about student health concerns, keep health records including immunization and athletic physical reports, write student health plans for in the school setting, and to screen students for vision loss, scoliosis, hearing loss, and to monitor yearly heights and weights. I frequently visit the classrooms as a guest speaker to teach about and to take student blood pressures, to teach about immunizations and dental health, and to teach CPR in health classes. I inservice our staff members about bloodborne pathogens, diabetes and asthma. I teach CPR to staff members, and maintain the defibrillator program at Turkey Valley. |
